JB Creative Silk
Janell grew up watching her mom paint, sew & quilt & wondered if she had inherited any artistic skill or talent. A college semester in Europe broke open a deep appreciation for color, design & various art mediums. Pursuits in business, single parenting, seminary, marriage, ministry & more concealed a growing hunger for creativity.
In 2010, Janell was on retreat staring at a white silk scarf. The instructor invited them to add color. Raw emotions of grief collided into a profound hunger for life as colors spread across the silk. Many admired her first work & encouraged her to do more. The next summer, she took her first silk painting class at the Grunewald Guild. Once again, colors exploded on the silk creating amazing scarves. Unsatisfied to wait a year until the next class, Janell learned how to do the process at home & continues to create colorful scarves & explore techniques.
In 2014 while recovering from a health concern, Janell began imagining what color a word would be & how it could be designed. Months later, she returned to her studio. As she created on silk what she had imagined, her watchword scarves evolved. Some of the words she has created are: Hope, Perseverance, Patience, Trust, Courage, Humility, Compassion, Flexibility, Blessed, Balance, I Am Enough, Grounded, Risk It, & Family. Many watchwords are also available as greeting cards.
In addition to being an artist, she is a Spiritual Director, ordained Lutheran pastor, mother & spouse. Janell loves to hike & be immersed in nature.
